Doreen Coggin 1923-2001

My Mum, Doreen Coggin, was born on the 21st October 1923 in Kingston upon Hull in the East Riding of Yorkshire.
She married my Dad on the 21st April 1945 at St Andrews church on Holderness Road in Kingston upon Hull.

Mum was a friendly lady and would talk to anyone ( hmm that’s where I get it from) She loved animals especially dogs ( there’s me again!).

Mum & Dad had me eighteen years after my brother, I think I was a mistake!

Mum was never ill and only went into hospital to give birth to my brother and also myself. Suddenly on the 23rd of July 2001 Mum died. She’d been having bad nose bleeds and went to her doctor, who admitted her into hospital, the following day she died, she had a anurism.

Albert Edward Wardill 1919-1988

My Dad, Albert Edward Wardill was born on the 28th December 1919 in Bridlington, East Yorkshire.
He was a quiet man who always had a twinkle in his eye. He used to try not to laugh when i was playing up or messing about but all i had to say to him was " I know your going to laugh cos i can see your eyebrows twitching" that always did it and he'd start laughing at me.

Dad joined the Merchant Navy and in 1945 married my Mum, Doreen Coggin, a girl from Kingston upon Hull.
Dad was a chief Engineer in the Merchant Navy. One time the engine room caught fire and Dad was in a hospital in Bombay suffering burns all over his body, for almost 7 months.

Dad left the Merchant Navy in 1969 and started to work at Fenners a factory that made belts for machinery. In 1970 he left there and both He & Mum worked together in the sweet shop they had bought.

In 1972 they bought a newsagents and worked together until retirement.
Sadly in 1985 Dad started acting strangely and was diagnosed with Altzheimers Disease and later on diagnosed with Bowel Cancer.

Dad died on 7th January 1988.

How it all began

I first started tracing my family tree back in 1988. In those days i didn't have access to the internet so used to spend all my spare time in Hull Central Library. I decided to trace my tree in that year as it was the year my beloved Dad died and i felt i knew nothing about my roots.

I started asking my Mum lots of questions to start me off and that was it... My tree began to grow
